Athens
The Sanborn fire insurance map dated 1885 (Sheet 1) depicts a log calaboose in Athens, Texas. It was located in city block 3 next to the brick city jail between North Common and Tyler streets. It was not on the 1890 map (sheet 1). This calaboose could have been erected and used prior to the construction of the two-story brick jail on North Common Street.

The Sanborn map dated 1934 (Sheet 2) depicts a concrete jail in the SE quadrant of city block 61 behind lot 2. It has no address but the building in lot 2 was at 211 3rd Street. It was not on the 1921 map. Parts of this town are in Kaufman County. The county hosting the jail has not been identified at this time.
