 Cisco

The Sanborn map dated 1891 (Sheet 1) depicts a wood calaboose in Cisco, Texas. It was located in city block 31 south of the Texas Central Railroad at West 6th and Avenue D (now Conrad Hilton Avenue) across the street from the Reynolds Building.  This calaboose was in the same location in 1896 (Sheet 1). In 1902 (Sheet 3) it was still there but referred to as a wood lockup. In 1907 (Sheet 3) and 1912 (Sheet 3) this building was vacant. In 1920 (Sheet 3) it was gone and in its place was a brick furniture store. No jail was seen on the 1920 Sanborn maps. According to Billy Wright (4th generation lawyer in Cisco) and Cecelia Boles (resident of Cisco), the next jail consisted of cells in the old City Hall (now the Lela Latch Lloyd Museum) that was built in 1916.   The 1920 map (Sheet 3) shows a two-story brick city hall building and fire department at 108 West 7th Street but there is no mention of a jail in this building.  The Cisco calaboose was constructed sometime between 1886 and 1891 and probably ceased to function as a lockup when the new jail was completed in 1916.

Gorman

The Sanborn map dated 1945 (Sheet) depicts a concrete city jail in an alley above the lower right hand quadrant of city block 15.  The city water works and fire department were in the quadrant mentioned above.  It was not there in 1921.

Ranger

A one-story wood jail is depicted on the Sanborn fire insurance map (Sheet 4) as being in Ranger, Texas in 1920.  It was located in the 300 block of South Austin (city block 23). It appears to be larger than the typical calaboose but may qualify after more research.
