Navasota

The Sanborn maps dated 1891 (Sheet 3) and 1896 (Sheet 3) depict a small one-story wood calaboose in Navasota, Texas in an alley between city blocks 3 and 15 on Washington Street.   It was not there in 1885.  A second calaboose was present in 1912 (Sheet 6). This one was an ironclad structure at 206 Farquhar Street (block 98) next to the fire department and city hall. According to a spokesperson for the Chamber of Commerce it is no longer there.

Shiro

A local informant told me that there used to be a calaboose in Shiro.  He could not remember the exact location or other details such as size or materials it was made of.  There were no Sanborn maps for Shiro at the time of this study.
