The Sanborn map dated 1891 (Sheet 3) depicts a brick county jail in Vernon, Texas in block 13 (lots 3 and 4). In 1896 (Sheet 3) a one story wood calaboose was present in block 13 (lot 10) on the north side of an east-west alley. This block is bounded on the north by Wilbarger Street, on the south by Marshall Street, on the east by Cumberland Street, and on the west by Main Street. It was still there in 1902 (Sheet 5) and the county jail occupied lots 3 and 4. It was gone in 1907 (Sheet 7).
