Edwards County

Barksdale

This calaboose is located in downtown Barksdale.  It has three rooms but it is not known how many were cells.  What appears to be correct is the room on the left with two large windows was the sheriff’s office.  The rooms to the right were probably cells.  The middle room also has large windows but that does not preclude them being protected with metal bars.  The room on the right has much smaller window with bars.  Pat Rogers of the Camp Wood Chamber of Commerce is acknowledged for confirming that this building was indeed a calaboose. The floor plan is not known.  If all three rooms were cells it would conform to Floor Plan 3b (see Floor Plans).  If only one or two rooms were cells this would be a new floor plan.  This structure has been recorded at TARL as historic site 41ED282.
