The City of Magnolia Park was incorporated in 1913.  An article in the Houston Post dated July 22, 1915 states that a jail is forthcoming.  The article does not mention a proposed construction date.

The fire station and City Hall were consolidated sometime in the early 1920s in a single building on the site of the original fire station that had been razed for the new structure, a two story brick and cast stone building.

The city of Houston annexed Magnolia Park in 1926 and the building served as Fire Station No. 20, a regional Battalion Headquarters, and a police substation.

Later renovations included a brick calaboose appended to the building’s east side. It is 12 feet by 12 feet in size (144 square feet) and made of brick. It is currently attached to the old City Hall. A historic marker application by the applicant. The address of the calaboose was 7301 Avenue F. A marker entitled “Magnolia Park City Hall and Central Fire Station” was awarded by the Texas Historical Commission in 2009. This information was found on the Portals to Texas History website and through the courtesy of Houstonian Chris Varela who provided the photographs used here.   In 2010, it was sold to a non-profit organization called Special Recreation Services, Inc.  This calaboose conforms to Floor Plan __ (see Floor Plans).
