Front of Calaboose

Darryl Pearson visited this interesting calaboose in Batesville, Texas on 12-09-15 and shared his photos with me.  The exterior walls are a combination of brick and cinder blocks.  Inside, are two metal cells, each with an outside door and there is an interior door between the two cells.  The floor is concrete and there is only about 2.5 feet of space between the cells and the outside walls.  An unusual feature of this particular jails is the iron overhang in front of the cells.  This suggests to me that the cells may have stood outside in the past and the current building was constructed around them later.  The condition of the cells and the building is poor.  It is privately owned. I visited this building on 02-19-16 but was unable to examine the interior because it is inside a fenced enclosure and the workers were not present to let me in.  This calaboose conforms to Floor Plan __ (see Floor Plans).
