At first, this building was documented as a calaboose.  However, I have recently learned that its role as a jail is not based on factual data.  It is soon to be moved to the category of suspicious structures.

is located in Leonard Park (1000 West California Street) in downtown Gainesville. It is owned by the City and is in its original location.  It measures 13 feet, 5 inches across the front and 13 feet, 4 inches on each side (181 square feet). The door is 2 feet, 6 inches wide and 5 feet, 11 inches tall. The height of the first story is 7 feet, 5 inches. There are two covered openings. The one on the second floor is rather large and may have served as a door. It was not possible to measure it at the time. The opening on the first floor is on one side and was probably a window and is 2 feet, 2 inches wide and 3 feet, 3 inches tall. The roof is covered with wooden shingles. The first floor is made of hand cut notched logs that are connected at the corners with joints that resemble the Dovetail type. The upper floor is made of sawed boards that overlap at the corners.  The date it was constructed is not known and there is no furniture or other items on the inside. It has been recorded at TARL as historic site 41CO203.
