Hillsboro

The Sanborn map dated 1885 (Sheet 1) depicts a small calaboose in city block 8 at 214 Covington next to the county jail at 301 and 302 Franklin. It was still there in 1891 (Sheet 1) but gone in 1906.

Hubbard City

The Sanborn map dated 1904 (Sheet 3) depicts an ironclad one-story lockup in Hubbard City, Texas. It was at 215 Magnolia Avenue (block 81) and it was still there in 1909 (Sheet 3) and 1916 (Sheet 4).  The existing jail is a one-story concrete calaboose located in an alley between 2nd and 3rd streets behind a row of old brick commercial buildings in the 200 block of Magnolia Street (See Calabooses). It was built sometime after 1916.

Itasca

The Sanborn fire insurance maps dated 1902 (Sheet 3) and 1907 (Sheet 3) depict a wooden calaboose in Itasca, Texas. It was located in City Block 16 near the corner of Adams and East Front streets. The metal cellblock or cage that was in the calaboose is now housed in City Hall.

Whitney

The first Sanborn map for Whitney, Texas  was published in May 1900. Sheet 1 depicts a small ironclad lockup is depicted in the street at 406 San Jacinto (block 15).  In 1905 (Sheet 2), it was still there but been moved off the street and next to a long wooden building, function unknown at 406 1/2 San Jacinto.  It was gone in 1911 and the name of the street had been changed to North San Jacinto.

      Mr. Cannon,

      I was there and took lots of pictures but the one I saw was not in an alley. If there is (or was) a different one or if this one used to be in an alley I would very much like a photo. I especially like historic photos of these old jails. If you look on my website under calabooses and by county you will see the jail I photographed. I also like any information such as names of constables, etc. Thanks for writing.
