Lavaca County

Shiner

A small one-story wood calaboose was present in Shiner, Texas on the 1906 Sanborn map (Sheet 1).  It was in an open area between Avenue G and Avenue F, north of the San Antonio & Aransas Pass Railroad and south of 7th Street. This part of town is not depicted on the 1900 Sanborn map. It was still there in 1912 (Sheet 3). This part of town does not appear to have been covered by the Sanborn Company in 1922. A search of other parts of town did not locate a jail or calaboose in another location.  Perhaps it still stands.
