 Blooming Grove

The Sanborn fire insurance map dated 1900 (Sheet 2) depicts a wood lockup in Blooming Grove, Texas. It was located in city block 5 near the corner of Fordyce and 2nd streets facing an alley.  It is also depicted on the 1905 Sanborn map (Sheet 2) in the same location.  That year the town was apparently larger because Fordyce had been renamed South Fordyce Street. The lockup was still there in 1910 (Sheet 3).  In May of 1921 (Sheet 2) there was a one-story brick jail in approximately the same area.  Block 5 had been changed to Block I and the jail was in city lot 17 in front of a small ironclad building that is labelled Fire Department.   According to Beth Nemeth at City Hall the brick jail is no longer there.
