Wood County

Alba

When I was in Mineola documenting the calaboose there I was told that a wooden calaboose had been moved from town to private property.  That is all I knew at the time and my informant said that he would look into it.  Today I saw the Sanborn map for Alba (Sheet 2) dated October 1925 and it depicts a small one-story city jail in city block 8 between Holmes and Linn Streets just north of the stock yards.  It appears on the map to have been facing Holmes. It was adjacent to a large ___ building with a hip roof referred to as “SPIES.”

I saw a reference to a calaboose in this town but I have no more information at this time.

Mineola

There was a one-story ironclad calaboose in city block 5 next to an Alley that ran from north to south.  It is depicted on Sheet 4 of the Sanborn map dated 1906.  In 1912, it was replaced by a one-story brick jail also in block 5 (Sheet 4).  The brick jail was still present in 1921 (Sheet 2) and described as being 12′ by 12′ in size (144 square feet).
